What is it?
Cross country is a sport that involves racing other schools from distances of 1.5 to 3 miles over a variety of terrain.
When?
Cross country is a fall sport. It starts on Monday, August 4 @ 7:30 a.m. Look at the main page for weekly information.
* Once school practice will be everyday Mon. thru Fri. after school, from 6:00 am – 8:00 am or 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Why?
It's fun! Talk to kids to have been a part of our program! It is also a great way to get in shape for winter and spring sports.
Are you good enough??
We don't cut athletes. If you work out with the team, you will get to compete in meets. We run 7 –10 athletes at the Varsity level, and as many as we want at the JV levels. Indicators for potential success are..........
If you were one of the faster kids from your school, especially at longer runs.
Work ethic.....over the long run this is the most important.
Good grades
What are the workouts like?
It varies depending on experience, ability, and your current fitness. You will be working out with athletes that are at your same level.
A typical workout would consist of doing some pushups and core work. Easy running for 10 to 15 mins, doing some active stretching/drills – Then doing the main workout which could be a variety of things. This would take 15 – 40 minutes depending on your fitness and time of the season. 5 – 10 minute cool down and stretching. Some days we will go in the weight room to work mostly on upper body and core muscles.
Workouts usually last 1 to 2 hours.
CC runners always have some of the highest GPA's in the school.
CC running seems to make good students, and good students seem to make good CC runners!!
In recent years many of our athletes have gone on to college!
UCSD,SDSU,UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, Cal Tech, Grossmont, BYU, Concordia in Portland, Sacramento State, Stanford, Claremont Mudd, Wake Forest, UCLA, UCSB, Sonoma State, Azusa Pacific, Cal State San Marcos, Cal Poly SLO
