Academic Success in Athletics!
Volleyball & Track
Cross Country & Track
Tennis
Water Polo & Swim
Of our five valedictorians and salutatorians this year, four are student-athletes. That distinction reflects something we in athletics have always believed: students do not have to choose between excellence in the classroom and excellence in competition. Our coaches consistently support, encourage, and reinforce academic success alongside athletic growth, health, leadership, and character development. The athletic department is proud to support the whole student, and our student-athletes’ accomplishments in the classroom speak for themselves.
Senior Timyra Payne won the 200 meters at the San Diego CIF Division 2 Championships and will advance to Sectionals next week at Mt. Carmel. Also earning medals and advancing are Elekana Ta’A who was third in shot and fourth in discus, Josh Hunt who was fourth in shot, Xzavier Carpenter who was third in the 400, and Daesean Jenkins who was fourth in triple jump.
We proudly celebrated two outstanding student-athletes at our College Signing Day event as they officially committed to continue their athletic and academic journeys at the NCAA level.
Marely Velazquez Varela will continue her soccer career at D1 Sacrament State, and Timyra Payne will move on to compete in D1 track and field at Tennessee State University.
Their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on our school community, both in athletics and in the classroom. Reaching the NCAA level is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are excited to see all they achieve in this next chapter.
We are incredibly proud of Marely and Timyra and grateful for the example they have set for younger student-athletes. Congratulations to both athletes and their families on this well-earned achievement. We look forward to cheering them on as they continue their journeys at the collegiate level.
