During the first semester we are going to learn about the ELEMENTS of ART. They are line, color, value, shape, form, texture and space. Throughout the first semester we will learn about these elements individually through art projects, note taking and digital assignments.
During the second semester we will study the PRINCIPLES of DESIGN. They are emphasis, movement, unity, rhythm, balance, pattern, and variety. Again we will learn these principles through projects, notes, digital assignments and reading. The goal for the student is to learn what the elements are and how they are used in conjunction with the principles to create successful pieces of art.
A variety of materials (media) will be used in the classroom including pencil, pen, paint and chrome books. Students will also be introduced to perspective drawing, proportions of the face, composition, art movements and influential artists who have made an impact on the art world.
Just like our 2D counterpart we are also learning about the elements of art during the first semester. We will be tackling them through (mostly) different projects, centered around exploring the third dimension of our art.
The second semester we will also be investigating the principles of design. Again, through different projects and through a different lens. The unique nature of 3D design is going to allow us to create art that takes advantage of verticality and will let you experiment with different materials and techniques.
You can expect to use the same materials that 2D will be using, and then some. We will explore beyond paint and pencil into the world of sculpture with different paper mediums, wire, and well...let's not spoil all the surprises yet.
