Smoking and Vaping

I chose the topic of Smoking and Vaping because I think it is something that we see on a daily basis. Some connections to the topics we have studied that relate to Smoking and Vaping are how we get sick and how we stay healthy. For example, a non-smoker stays healthy because they are not putting the toxins and chemical from smoking and vaping into their body so they have healthy lungs but a person that is smoking or vaping on a daily basis is getting that smoke into their lungs and can cause for them to get sick or weak and can cause cancers. Another topic that we have studied that relates to the topic I picked is organisms can evolve through their interactions with the environment. When a person is smoking it is not only affecting them but it can affect their interactions with the environment. Smoking can cause environmental pollution by releasing smoke into the air. Even if you aren't the one smoking, you can still be inhaling someone else's smoke. For example, if you were in a house with someone that is smoking, they are affecting your health because you could be breathing in the secondhand smoke that can damage the lining of blood vessels even if you aren't the one smoking. Lastly, the topic of Smoking and Vaping relates to cancers because cancers are one of the most caused deaths and part of the reason people would have lung cancer is because they had been smoking. Each year there are more than 480,000 people deaths in the Unites Sates including more than 41,000 deaths from secondhand smoke exposure. The main cause of lung cancer is almost 90% because of smoking so if the smoking rates dropped then the rates each year of people dying from lung cancer would drop because first of all there wouldn't be an many people smoking and second of all there wouldn't be many people breathing in secondhand smoke that causes damage.
