College Admissions
In the last few years a coalition of 80 colleges including all of the Ivy League Universities, began using the Coalition Application system. In July 2016 an additional 56 universities have followed suit. One of the first steps in applying for these universities is cultivating a digital portfolio.
Cultivate a Professional Presence Online
Educator, author and innovator George Couros succinctly highlights five reasons to have a digital portfolio:
- “The Google Factor” - Employers who they are hiring and curating a healthy portfolio makes job seekers visible and potentially more marketable!
- “Searching and Organizing” - Digital portfolios keep track of progress and organize it in a manner that allows you or a potential employer search for key attributes or projects specific to their needs.
- “Anywhere, any place, any time” -Digital portfolios allow students, teachers, parents, college admissions, and future employers the opportunity to review the portfolio on their own time from virtually anywhere.
- “Creating opportunities instead of looking for them” - What a powerful concept! By publishing work online and inviting others to look at it, creates an opportunity to expand knowledge and ideas as well as to build a networking platform.
- “Continuous learning” - An online portfolio provides students with the opportunity to reflect on their challenges and success along their educational journey.
