About the Exam

Exam Overview

The AP Statistics Exam will test your understanding of the mathematical concepts covered in the course units, including your ability to use statistical methods and calculate the probability of an outcome.

This is a fully digital exam. You’ll complete multiple-choice and free-response questions in the Bluebook testing app, with all responses automatically submitted at the end of the exam.

Update for 2027 AP Exams: Nongraphing calculators are not allowed, even those with the required statistics computational capabilities.

About the Exam

Section 1: Multiple Choice

42 Questions | 1hr 30 Minutes | 50% of Exam Score


The multiple-choice section assesses:

  • Your understanding of content from all 9 units of study

  • Your ability to apply all 4 course skills

The section includes individual questions or sets of questions based on a shared prompt.

Section 2: Free Response

4 Questions | 1hr 30 Minutes | 50% of Exam Score


The second section of the AP Statistics Exam includes four 10-point question types, which are listed below in the order they appear on the exam. Students are expected to use a graphing calculator that has statistical capabilities.

Question 1 is a multi-part question that primarily assesses Practices 1 and 2.

Question 2 is a multi-part question that primarily assesses Practices 3 and 4.

Question 3 focuses on inference, assessing the inference skills associated with Practices 2, 3, and 4.

Question 4 is a multi-part question with a focus on multiple course content areas, assessing Practices 2, 3, and 4.
