Exit Tickets

What is an Exit Ticket?

An exit ticket is a reflective task that the students need to complete at the end of the lesson.

Kahoot

Kahoot is a wonderful way to get instance feedback from your lesson. Set a short quiz of 4 or 5 questions that can be given to the students during the last 5-10 minutes of the lesson to check their learning and understanding of the lesson.

Go to Kohoot.it to play a Kahoot Quiz. This is the website you would give to your students. The students will be asked to enter a code.

To create a Kahoot Quiz go to the website Kahoot.com and then sign up for an account. You can sign up using Google account if you have one.

Google Forms

Google forms is a very easy way to get instant feedback of learning during the lesson.

They can provide reflective data from your students they can inform future lessons. They can provide a quick way to quiz your students on their learning. They can provide a focus for feedback.

Ideas with Google Forms

You can use a Google form for many aspects of learning. Here are few ideas:

  • In one simple question ask the students what they have learned. You can request a minimum character count to ensure the students write a sufficient amount.
  • In one question ask the student to list the vocabulary they have learned/used within the lesson.
  • Give a short quiz and used the Quiz feature in Google Forms to mark it.
  • Use it as a survey to find out what they thought of the lesson.
  • Collect work that needs to be handed in.

Creating a Google Form

Watch the video opposite to see how you can easily create a Google form for your students. You can also use the steps below to create your first Google form.

You will need a Google Account to create a Google Form. Go to Google Drive (drive.google.com). If you are not logged in you will be asked to log in at this point.

  • Go to Google Drive when logged into your Google account
  • Create a Folder with a organised structure to store your Google Forms
  • Click the blue "New" button, click "More" and choose Google Forms
  • Give the Form an appropriate title.
  • Change the Design if you wish by clicking the Colour Palette icon top right.
  • Add a question to collect the student name.
  • Add a second question to gather a reflection.
  • Add further questions if necessary.
  • Click the Preview icon top right to see what the form looks like for students.

Sending the Form to Students

The easiest way to send the form is by emailing the form to the students by clicking the Send button. However, since students at Kings House do not have emails, you will need to be more creative in getting the form to the students because the URL is too complex to copy.

Shortening the Link

Use bitly.com to shorten the link to a much easier URL and then show this on the white board for the students to copy.

QR Code

If you are using the iPads and the iPads have a QR scanner app, use www.qr-code-generator.com to create a QR code. Print it out and display it or project the QR code on white board for students to scan.

Use Edmodo

Post the link into Edmodo where the students can then log on to Edmodo and click the link.

Embed into your class website

If you use a website for your teaching, Embed the Google Form into your website. To do this:

  • Click the Send button in your Google Form
  • Click the <> tab
  • Copy the code shown
  • Paste this into the relevant place in your website.

Looking at the results of the Student Reflection

Once the students have submitted their response on the Google Form, the data is stored in the Google form and you can view this data. You can also send the data to a Google Spreadsheet which you can then manipulate as required.

  • Click the Responses tab on the Google Form - you will then see the data of the student responses.
  • Click the Spreadsheet icon (a green icon with a white cross)
  • Choose Create New Spreadsheet.

This will create a new spreadsheet and put it in the same folder as your Google Form. You will see the results of your Google Form in this spreadsheet.

You can see the results of the session results to the right.
