Day 4 Blog Post (Anneth Hernandez - IT-Cybersecurity)

Morning
Today marked our third official day in Wenzhou, and it truly felt like a deep dive into learning about China’s industrial world. After settling into the Awailou Hotel, we’re finally getting into the flow of balancing technical learning with cultural experiences.
Our morning began with a visit to Weiyi Hongji Group (VEH Group). The scale of the facility was impressive, and everything felt extremely organized and efficient. This company specializes in producing large electrical equipment like transformers and switchgear for power grids, and seeing it in person made everything we learn feel much more real.
One thing that stood out to me was the discipline in the workplace. Compared to the U.S., where there’s often more flexibility and emphasis on creativity, the environment here felt more structured and efficiency-driven. It reminded me of the SC Johnson iMET Center at Gateway, but on a much larger industrial scale. It showed me how both countries value engineering, just in slightly different ways.
Afternoon
After VEH Group, we headed to Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group, which focuses on AI, robotics, and CNC technology. This visit was especially interesting because of their focus on education.
Yalong designs training systems like robotic arms and automated production lines specifically for students. It was eye-opening to see how closely education is tied to real industry here. In the U.S., we have strong hands-on learning at Gateway, but in China, it feels like students are working with industry-level systems even earlier.
This made me reflect on how different countries prepare their students. Both approaches are effective, but China’s model feels more directly integrated with manufacturing and production environments.
Night
After so much learning, we returned to the Awailou Hotel and had dinner through room service. I ordered the Awailou
sandwich, and it was a nice, simple way to recharge after being on our feet all day.
After dinner, we went to MixC Mall to unwind. The mall was lively, modern, and had a familiar feel compared to malls in the U.S., but still with its own unique atmosphere. It was nice to have some time to explore, shop, and relax with my classmates after such a structured day.
That contrast really stood out to me during the day, everything is very focused, disciplined, and work-oriented, but at night, there’s a balance with spaces designed for relaxation and social life.
From the large-scale power equipment at VEH Group to the advanced robotics at Yalong, today showed me how connected our studies at Gateway are to a global industry. It made me realize that engineering and technology go far beyond the classroom they’re part of an international system where different countries contribute in their own ways. Seeing how China approaches efficiency, education, and production has given me a new perspective. This made me realize that we have more flexibility in the U.S. than we tend to acknowledge.
I’m exhausted, but also very inspired. I’m looking forward to tomorrow as we continue visiting more companies and learning how everything connects.
