This week we started our colour theme! We learned and talked about different colours as we engaged in a variety of different colour-based activities in our classroom.
Show and Tell!
It was exciting to have our first round of show and tell this week. No need to worry if you forgot, there will be plenty of more show and tell days to come. We also let the students show a toy from the classroom if they forget, and they seem to like doing this just as well!
Shades of Red
On Monday we learned how to mix paint and create different shades. Since Monday was red day, we tried creating different shades of red while we painted on tinfoil using cotton swabs. This simple scientific activity kept the students engaged for quite a long time!
Going on a Blue Hunt!
On Tuesday and Friday we read the book, The Blue Balloon. This story about a seemingly magical balloon is so simple, yet so entertaining! Afterwards, I challenged our students to find something blue in the classroom and bring it back to the carpet. Check out the piles of blue items we managed to round up!
Colour Stamping!
On Wednesday our students had the chance to use cups as stamps while they painted and explored with many different colours.
Colour Sorting in the Gym
We used our gross motor skills to scooter around the gym while we collected balls and sorted them into their corresponding hula hoops. This activity was not only challenging physically, but it also helped us to develop the essential early numeracy skill of sorting!
Germany!
On Thursday we learned about Germany! We have a handful of students this year with German heritage and it was fun to look at the German flag and listen to You Are My Sunshine in German. I have linked the song below for you to enjoy with your children at home as well.
