We have been busy at school. Here are a few highlights:
Math - We are working on building basic addition and subtraction fact fluency and have been working on repeating patterns.
Orange Shirt Day - We read stories, listened to videos, and had discussions to develop an understanding of why we have this day and what truth and reconciliation mean. Stories are such a great way to help us all understand difficult things. You check out some of the stories we shared below.
Terry Fox - We talked a lot about Terry Fox and all he did. We even got on a Google Meet with Tery Fox's niece. She did a great job telling us about Terry Fox as a person; one of her main messages was that he was an ordinary person who did extraordinary things. What an inspiration! We had a good time on our Terry Fox walk. Thanks to those parents who were able to join us.
Poweschool - I have started adding a few things to Powerschool. I will start adding more in October. I will tell you that all the kids have been working really hard to far. This 2B class is a lovely group of hard working, respectful kids. It is a pleasure to teach them!
Phonics - I will send the black, phonics duotangs home on Thursday. It will be really beneficial if you get your child to read the passages from it to build their accuracy and fluency. The spelling pattern they practiced this week is the Floss Rule. I will be doing a check in on this skill on Friday. Please send the duotangs back to school by then.
There will be no school on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Remember to initial the calendar in your child's agenda if he/she is practicing his/her reading at home. I will check the Sept calendars on Thurs, Oct. 1.
Library is on Thursday.
Over the year, I will keep the majority of your child's projects at school. I will send them home in June, compiled into a memory book.
I try my best to get most of the kids when I do photos, but at times due to many reasons, I miss some of them. I wll do my best to capture some great moments in their grade 2 year.
I hope you all enjoy the beauty of fall this weekend. I sure love all the beautiful colors outside. Look at the beautiful artwork the kids done so far.
Take care!
