Please ensure that you pack a healthy snack (I give them quite a bit of time for snack time - they can usually eat 2 things), as well as a lunch (I also give them extra time to eat lunch). Keep in mind there is NO access to microwaves.
Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle to school. Sending a water bottle to school for your child to use in our classroom cuts down on interruptions for water breaks. I will do my best to remind them to take these bottles home each day! Water is the healthiest option for our growing bodies, so students are encouraged to drink water at school and save juice boxes for home. On ECVS Hot Lunch days, however, juice boxes and chocolate milk are allowed as treats if ordered by families.
Birthdays are special for our kiddos, and we love to celebrate them! You are welcome to send a small treat for the class on your child’s birthday, though it is not required. We find that small treats work best for celebrations. I also encourage parents to let me know in advance if they plan to send something. Please note that one of our classmates has a mango allergy, so being mindful of ingredients is important. If you notify me ahead of time, I can help accommodate or provide suggestions for safe options. Currently, our class has 17 students.
At this time, we do not have any students with food allergies. Please let me know as soon as possible if your child has a food allergy.
If something is sent home unfinished, you are free to finish it at home and are NOT required to send it back. Anything I send home (unless otherwise stated) is meant to be kept at home and they were given adequate time in class to finish the assignment.
Research supports that children should be reading on a DAILY basis. The benefits of reading continues for years to come. I would suggest reading with your child for at least 10 minutes per day. They can read alone (look at pictures, look for specific letters, make up stories, etc.), or have a book read to them from a parent/family member.
The understanding of our weekly words builds speed and fluency when reading. Accuracy, speed, and fluency in reading increases reading comprehension. Our weekly words are a collection of words that a child learns to help build their decoding skills. The weekly words are frequently used words that a child can use to build vocabulary.
This year our weekly words are connected to our weekly phonics skill. Each week we will send home five new words for your child to practice at home with fun ideas included for practicing the words. These words should be practiced throughout the year.
Volunteers are welcome! As opportunities arise throughout the year, I will communicate this with you.
We will be using Chromebooks in the classroom this year! I've gotten some questions as to if they can bring their own Chromebook to school to use and the answer is YES! Only your child would use their Chromebook and it would be stored with their separate supplies. If you are sending one, please let me know and we can chat about when it is to be sent home. We won't start using them until at least the third week of school.
Please know there are enough at school to accommodate everyone, so this is not mandatory whatsoever. If they are using the school's Chromebooks, they are shared between three classes and will be sanitized between each use.
This year there will be no flyers sent home with your child from Scholastic. All book order must be placed online and will be shipped directly to your home or our school. If you use our class code, 20% of all purchases comes directly back into our classroom in the form of new books! Thank you in advance if you choose to support our classroom library! All orders over $40 qualify for free shipping when shipped to the school and any order under $40, the shipping fee is $7.50. Each month I will send home a link with the new flyer for you to access.
If you are interested, our class code is RC210630.
I check my email when I can throughout the day and after school. In case of an emergency, advise the office and they will contact me directly. Please don't hesitate to email, call, or catch me in person after school if you have questions or concerns. I look forward to working together with you to best support your child!
