AI Tools for Teachers

There are a variety of AI tools that fall under different categories. Most of these run on ChatGPT 3.5 whereas the paid version of ChatGPT is version 4. Yes, it does make a big difference! There are a few categories of AI teacher tools; AI infused tools such as Canva, Adobe, and Quizlet to name a few, chatbots and apps that run through chat like Automagical, content creators like Slidesgo, Gamma or Tome, AI tutors like Quizlet's q-chat, AI generative text (writing) tools like GPT itself,  AI quiz tools, and AI Image generator tools.

These are the AI tools that made the cut.  Check them out! See my very official rating system below.

Google's AI model. It took a LOT of heat for it's inaccurate historical IMAGE generation.

Brisk Teaching is an AI extension that does a lot, including checking for AI generated writing, creating lesson plans and quizzes, changing writing level, and more.

For thorough unit plan and lesson plan creation based on Alberta curriculum, it probably doesn't get better than Teachaid.

Chat GPT. The OG of generative AI releases. The most recent paid version is 4, free is 3.5. Be aware that many AI tools use version 3.0. (Sept/23)

Automagical Teacher Helper is availble to all Black Gold Teachers. In your Gmail Chat, chat with Automagical. It will create Google Forms as well as CSV files that will work with Gimkit, Blooket,  Quizlet, Quizizz and Kahoot.

Slides Translator is also availble to all Black Gold Teachers. In Slides, look for it in your extensions and add ons. It will translate an entire slide deck with one click and also has a read aloud component.

MagicSchool is a free interface with guides for what you can do and boxes to fill so you don’t need to know how to write a prompt. It includes a pretty good chat bot to help you. Text-based production in a sidebar. Creates all kinds of activities and content to be copied and pasted.

Curipod is one of my favourites.  Plan and deliver interactive lessons and students enter Pins for live interactivity. This one is really good,  like Pear Deck on AI steroids.

Diffit allows teachers  to create leveled resources instantly including leveled texts, then comprehension questions based on those readings.

Twee: The beta is free for this English language focused AI tool. It has lots of activities and some great idea generators! The YouTube activities are great! Generate text and then DO things with the text with branched logic buttons.

Question Well is a question set creator. It is able to generate a variety of question types (in the paid version) MC only in the free version, and export to an impressive number of different formats for formative assessment games and quiz creators. Still an export and import process not a product creator.

SchoolAI has an interesting twist that other AI  teacher tools don't have,  a student interface that gives you  insights. The chatbot is great at  supplying ideas for unit plans, lesson plans, hands-on activities, etc.

Canva's Generative AI tools include Magic Write, Magic Design, Text to Image, and a bulk create app that allows you to do basically a mail merge within Canva.

Eduaide This is a less intuitive interface than MagicSchool. It can do a lot, but is still text-based production in a sidebar. Lots of Categories that make you need to know where you’re looking.

Quizlet now has FOUR embedded generative AI tools, three of which are available on the free version. It seems to be limiting what you can use for free more and more.

Slidesgo: Slides templates AND AI created Slides templates

Almanack  is  another Slides creator

Quizizz is a great quiz game site, now with AI features for question creation from a variety of sources.

They also have an extension that will turn any webpage into a Quizizz quiz!

There are several Slides creators. While some of them create good Slides and content, they have limited free usage or are paid, others create dubious content and/or ugly slides.

Adobe Express: their current AI offerings (Adobe Firefly) are weak 👎

Canva has a lot in integrated AI, and bulk create 👍

Gamma💲

PlusAI💲

Almanack👍Fairly good slides creator

Slidesgo: best of the free slides creators 👍

Slides AI: interesting, but the actual slides are bad. 👎
