We have moved on to editing sentences. When editing sentences students are checking for:

• correct capitalization

• correct punctuation

• finger spaces

• correct spelling

• correct letter formation

• self monitoring (does it look right? does it sound right? does it make sense?)

Spelling words for the entire year were sent home and will also be attached at the bottom of this page. We will complete our spelling tests on Wednesdays. If your child is absent for any reason they will make up the test on their first day back. Spelling tests will be sent home as soon as they are marked. I will only input grades into Powerschool on the review units. The review units will give me a true understanding of the students internalization of the skills being taught (versus memorization)

Heart Words: I have started testing students on their heart words. Students will be tested on their heart words twice a month (the hope is they pass two lists a month) OR when you message me via Remind to tell me they are ready. Heart words for grades 1-6 were sent home in an envelope (grade 2 will focus on booklet #2 and #3) the first week of school. These words should be kept at home for the entire year, if they go missing they are also linked at the bottom of this page. It is very important to practice these on a nightly basis to help with your child’s reading fluency and accuracy. Once your child has mastered them at home please send me a Remind message and I will check them at school. Please only focus on the list your child is currently working to master. Remember, these words are NOT SPELLING WORDS!
