SNACK TIME!
Every morning at school we will have snack time. Each child is responsible for bringing his/her own nutritional snack each day. We are a PEANUT AND NUT FREE CLASSROOM. Please keep this in mind as you pack your child a snack. Please see the County Line Guidelines Handbook for more information about the rules for daily snack. Your child is strongly encouraged to bring a spill proof water bottle to school! This will be kept at their seat.
CLASSROOM WEBSITE
Please take a look at our classroom website! You may access it from the County Line Website. Click on “Grade Levels” → “Second Grade” → “Ms. Bennett” to get to it. https://sites.google.com/gsdwi.org/msbennettswebsite/home I will continue to update the website with educational resources, classroom updates, and curriculum information. Newsletters will also be posted on this website on a monthly basis. Please take a look through it when you have the chance!
NEWSLETTERS
I will write a monthly newsletter to keep you up-to-date on what we are doing and learning in the classroom. This will be sent out through Seesaw Messages to families in the beginning of the month and posted on our class website as well. Please take a look at the newsletter and have conversations about the things we are doing at school.
HOMEWORK
As becoming a 2nd grader at County Line comes with many new routines and adjustments, we will start homework around the second or third week of school. Math homework will come home every Friday (Thursday, if no school on Friday) and will be due the following Friday. Students can turn in Math Homework sooner than Friday if they wish to do so. Students will bring home a list of ten High Frequency words weekly. A spelling test will be given on Friday. It is also required that second graders read 15+ minutes a night. Guided Reading groups will start up the beginning of October. Your child will bring books home to read to an adult. Please make sure the Guided Reading folder returns to school every day. Please note the Homework schedule printed on cardstock in your child’s take home binder.
CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS
At this time, no volunteers are allowed to work in the building. However, there will be opportunities to do some volunteer work at home, for example, separating Scholastic News magazines, separating Scholastic book club flyers, cutting items, and more. If you are interested in doing something like this, please email me if you are interested and I will put you on the volunteer list.
TAKE -HOME BINDER
We will use the binder to send home important papers between school and home, as well as help us to keep important resources organized. Please help your child remember to bring it back to school each day.
COMET CODE: School Wide
The Comet Code is a set of norms and expectations all students and teachers strive for every day at County Line: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. To acknowledge these school-wide norms, there will be different reinforcement systems in place throughout the school year.
CLASS DOJO
I will be using Class DoJo for our management system. ClassDojo is a web based program which allows teachers to track students’ behaviors (positive AND negative) easily and efficiently. The program is based on points, and students can be given positive points for things like being on task, being respectful, participating, working hard and following the Comet Code. On the other hand, points can be taken away if students are off task, talking, etc. Students will be able to “cash in” their points for prizes or coupons at the end of the week.
SUPER HERO OF THE WEEK
Each student will have the opportunity to be Super Hero for the week in our classroom. I will send a more detailed note about their week as Super Hero the Monday before their assigned week. Much like Star Student, each child will get a poster to decorate, bring in pictures, show a few items from home and classmates will write him/her a letter. I will send a list home of when students will be Super Hero of the week.
BIRTHDAYS
We will celebrate birthdays and half birthdays (those who have birthdays in the summer months) in the classroom. If your child would like to bring in a treat, they may bring one in for 18 students, however this is not required. Please note: We are a PEANUT AND NUT FREE CLASSROOM. In order to be germ free friendly, all treats will need to be individually wrapped by the manufacturer. No cupcakes, cookies, or donuts, etc made in stores. No homemade items. Items like wrapped Little Debbie treats, Rice Krispy bars, Fruit Snacks, packaged cookies, etc will be totally acceptable.
BOOK ORDERS
On the first Monday of each month, I will send home a Scholastic Book Order form. If you would like to purchase any books, please return the form with a check (NO CASH PLEASE) by the following Monday. I will also include information for ordering online. Our class code is always T3WM8. Using the online system will help earn free books for our classroom. When sending the form and check, please send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and teacher.
GYM SHOES
Students will participate in gym class three days a week. All students should keep one pair of gym shoes at school at all times. It’s also a good idea to send an extra pair of socks in your child’s backpack for the days your child may be wearing sandals. Girls should wear shorts or pants on gym days.
