Weekly Announcements (Week of 9/15):
Next week Amy Belle School will have Spirit Week in honor of GHS's Homecoming Week. Please see the Upcoming Events tab for more information.
I've already received four September Reading Challenge Logs from students! The logs are optional, but are highly encouraged to help promote consistent at-home reading. Students who complete the requirements of the log and turn it in by Wednesday, October 1 will be able to choose a prize from my prize box. Keep reading!!

Math Homework Tip: Third graders have been taught a structure to use when completing word problems. It's called a MATH 3-POINTER. This structure begins in third grade and will be used throughout the remainder of their math instruction in GSD. When answering a word problem, students should include: 1. A MODEL (Picture, open number line, array, etc.) 2. EQUATION (Preferably with a variable to represent the unknown) 3. A LABELED AND CIRCLED ANSWER. This is new to the class, but students quickly become used to the structure. You will continue to see my written comments and reminders on your child's math pages if parts of the 3-Pointer are missing. Thanks in advance in helping your student master this structure!
I will soon be administering the AIMs test to all of the students. There are two parts. One part will be completed on the computer which is a Vocabulary test. For the second part, each student will read two timed grade level passages to me to test for Oral Reading Fluency. If students score below the 25%ile, then there will be further diagnostic testing completed by our reading department. You will receive information about your child's AIMs performance in October. Stay tuned!
Has your student memorized our class's Pledge to Ourselves? We say this pledge immediately after the Pledge of Allegiance every day. It's a great way to get our brains in a positive mindset. Ask your child to say it to you!:
Pledge to Ourselves: Today I will do my best to be my best. What I do today will make a difference in my life. I will be respectful, safe, responsible and kind. I will persevere with determination when things become difficult for me. I will learn something today, because today matters, and my future is built one now at a time!
Thank you, Mrs. Olwig and Mrs. McKenna, for volunteering to be our classes Room Parents this year! I am very grateful to have two amazing moms help me this year!
