OTHER PROCEDURES:

1. Entering the room: Enter quietly and politely; don't interrupt other students. Put your belongings in your desk and begin work on the Do Now activity on the board.

2, Lining up: Stand up quietly; push in your chair; take all necessary items; line up without touching others or talking; face the front of the line; watch where you are going.

3. Leaving the room during class: Ask permission; take the correct hall pass; walk on the green; do not run or play while out of the room. If you have a restroom emergency, you must sign out, ask for the restroom pass, and sign back in.

4. Leaving the room at the end of class: Return supplies to your group basket and have work ready to turn in. Pick up any trash within three feet of your desk; stack your belongings on top of your desk. The teacher will tell you when to push in your chair, pick up your belongings, and line up quietly.

5. Throwing away trash: Keep all trash at your desk until the end of class.

6. Groupwork: Stay on topic and do not talk with students outside your group. Be sure to contribute to the assignment.

7. Getting help with assignments: Quietly ask the students in your group for help with directions if you need it; if you still don't understand or are working alone, raise your hand to get help from the teacher.

8. Group supply baskets: You are encouraged to use your own supplies. However, if needed, paper, pencils, a sharpener, and other supplies for the day will be in a basket in the center of your group of desks. These are to USE, NOT TO ABUSE.

9. Leaving your seat during class: You must ask permission to leave your seat for any reason during class. You'll be keeping waste paper and other trash until the end of class. Supplies will be located in a basket in your group. You won't really need to leave your desk.

10. Being a classroom helper: A classroom helper will be assigned each Monday. Helpers will be taken from the class roll, in alphabetical order (last name).

11. Using the classroom library: After you have finished your independent work, you may check out a book. To do so, select a book (you only have three minutes at the class library) and sign out the book on the sign-out sheet (red folder). Take good care of the book; when you are finished, return the book to the shelf and list the date

12. Checking out books in the media center: We'll visit the media center for orientation. After that, you may ask permission to check out after completing your classwork and having the teacher look at it. We will not visit the media center as an entire class.

13. Seatwork: As soon as you get a paper, print your first and last names at the top.

14. If you need a tissue: Raise your hand and point to your nose. That's the signal that you need a tissue!

15. Visitors in the classroom: When visitors enter the room, get ready to listen to and look at the visitor — a smile is great! Remember, most visitors are here to watch you learn, so be ready to explain what you are working on; treat visitors respectfully.

16. Fire drill: Stop everything; stand up and head for the door quickly, but without running or pushing; do not cover your ears; do not make any side trips. Follow the line leader (person sitting nearest the door) out the classroom door and out the end doors. Line up, one behind the other, behind the line leader in the field. Wait patiently, calmly, and quietly in line outside until we are allowed to go back to what we were doing.

17. Signals for attention: When any adult at RRMS needs your attention, he or she will use the "Take Five" signal - a raised hand. As soon as you see the signal, stop what you are doing, look at the adult, and listen for directions.

18. Helping other students: In a cooperative classroom, it is good to help one another; if someone in your group needs help with directions or reading an assignment, help him or her if you are able; if someone needs help with understanding the problem, tell him or her to ask me for help; never put down another student who asks for help.

19. Testing: You must work individually and silently during testing, so that all students can do their best. After you complete your test, you may read silently or do other work at your desk.

20. What to do after completing work: Assignments will usually be planned so that you can work at your own pace and stay busy throughout class. If you finish an assignment, first work on any unfinished assignments. Then, you may choose to read a book. Other choices are to write a story, work on a research project, peer-tutor someone in your group who needs your help, or create a song/poem about what the class is studying.
