Rising sea levels are exactly the name, an increase in sea level.
Global warming/Climate Change
Ice caps/sheets/glaciers melting
Thermal expansion of sea water (the colder the temperature, the denser the ocean gets, which causes higher sea levels)
People/animals: If the sea level rises, then the water that's being pushed onto land is going to suck up some of our trash and bring it back into the ocean. For humans, we're affected with tsunamis and floods.
Build higher seawalls - Seawalls are walls that could be built around/near a location where rising sea levels could impact them. Most locations already have seawalls that are around five or six feet above sea levels, but it would be best to build them higher since sea levels are rising. This method is very expensive though; raising seawalls costs $60 per foot.
Elevating houses - Elevated homes help so when sea levels rise, it decreases the chances of them reaching the house.
Plants mangroves (a tree or shrub that grows in tropical coastal swamps that are flooded at high tide)- "Mangroves reduce the intensity of waves crashing on the shoreline and also help in reducing the associated impact in case of sea level rise"
Building artificial islands- They can act as a barrier to sensitive coastlines with a lot of housing property. It decreases the chance of damage. Strong waves often lead to high erosion rates and artificial islands should help bring it down.
Ice sheets of Greenland ice and Western Antarctic could cause a 13 meter (43 feet) rise in sea levels
The sea level is rising about 3mm in a year!
It could contaminate our drinking water.
It could interfere with farming.
It will hurt the economy!!
Erosion of shorelines
