What We Are

The mathematics department at VJM offers high quality learning opportunities through exceptional instruction, differentiated content, incorporation of technology and interactive lessons provided by our knowledgeable and skilled team of teachers.

Our Goals in Mathematics 7-9

Students will;

• Use mathematics confidently to solve problems.

• Communicate and reason mathematically.

• Appreciate and value mathematics in real word applications.

• Become critical thinkers and lifelong learners of math.

• Develop positive attitudes about math and become mathematically literate adults, using mathematics to contribute to society.

Where We Are Going

As a department we are excited to explore the possibilities of a project based learning approach. PBL allows students to gain knowledge and skills investigating an authentic and engaging complex problem or challenge. This will encourage collaboration between departments and increase cross curricular connections of math to other subject areas like science, social studies and language arts. Hopefully igniting an interest to learn and appreciate math in all possible applications!
