While levelled readers do work for some students, research suggests that providing children with decodable readers is the best way to support early reading.
Decodable books are books that only contain the letters and letter patterns that have already been learned in class. Unfortunately, we don’t currently have many decodable books in our classroom libraries to send home with the students. There are, however, many decodable resources currently available for free online. Please check out the following links for some online decodable books.

Anyword that is not decodable has been introduced and orthographically mapped in class.Decodable books are perfect for beginning readers as the text is simple and students can sound out most of the words independently, assuming they have learned all the sounds in each book.
