Creating A Personalized Professional Development Plan for Graduate School

Time: 09:00am - 10:30am

Description: In this interactive workshop, we will lead you through a 3-step process to create your personalized professional development plan for your time in graduate school. We will discuss core professional skills that everyone should develop during their training, and at what point in your grad career the training best fits. You will leave with a customized professional development plan that considers your academic and career goals and the duration of your program. You will also leave with a better idea of resources available at UCLA to include in your professional development plan. This workshop is ideal for students who are able to work on their plan during the workshop, using provided digital and/or paper documents.

Academic Worker Rights and Protections Workshop

Description: Come learn about your rights and workplace protections as student workers at the University of California. We’ll discuss how to enforce and protect our collective rights, and you’ll walk away with a clear understanding of the resources and tools available to all academic workers through your union. You’ll have a chance to meet with student workers from across campus and hear about their experiences navigating employment benefits at UCLA.

Yet identifying appealing careers and ways to develop the skills necessary to successfully compete for these jobs can feel confusing. In this workshop, we’ll talk about how to undertake career exploration and skills development as an intentional part of your doctoral training and share career services that can help you identify and prepare for your career post-graduate school.

Description: Come connect with current and incoming Black Graduate students at “Black Grad Rising: SANKOFA!” where all of your questions regarding life for Black Graduate students on and off campus will be addressed by current Black Graduate students. Following the panel discussion, there will be a mixer with activities like games, hors d'oeuvres, opportunity drawings, and a champagne toast!
