There are scientific, creative, and systematic endeavours undertaken by the University with the aim of improving the existing knowledge and contributing to socio-economic development of the nation. It is at the heart of the interests of any academic institution of higher learning and thus plays an important role in moulding the careers of the members of the Academic Staff. To assist the Academic Staff to engage in such endeavours in a productive way, the University of Peradeniya has established a well-coordinated system of authorities to manage the activities.
Universities bear the global responsibility of addressing issues that mankind encounters and finding scientific solutions for them in terms of research. Therefore, research has become an integral part of the university academics' career. Research trends in the present-day world have changed from subject-based studies to an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach - a shift that facilitates the scientists to discover solutions for most of the complex and multifaceted dilemmas of the world.

Postgraduate Research Fellowships 2025:
NOTICE
1. Hilda Obeysekera Research Fellowship – Awarded to the Faculties of Arts and Science (01 Fellowship)
2. Gate Mudliyar A G Tillekaratne Research Fellowship – Awarded to male students only of the Faculties of Arts and Science (04 Fellowships)
3. University Research Fellowship - Open to all Faculties (04 Fellowships)
4. E W Goonatilake Research Fellowship – Awarded to the Arts graduates of the University of Peradeniya to carry out research in “Theravada Buddhism” (03 Fellowships)
Applications are invited for the above fellowships for the Academic Year 2025. (Please see Guidelines in the University Website) Applications must be made on the prescribed application form downloadable from the University Website (www.pdn.ac.lk). Where an application must be sent by post, the applicant should send a request and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (22 X 10 cm.) to the Assistant Registrar, Council & Academic Division, University of Peradeniya.
The closing date of receiving the completed applications by the Council & Academic Division, University of Peradeniya, is 31st March, 2025. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be entertained.
