The CIDS courses are part of the undergraduate program's general education curriculum. Starting from 110 Academic Year, each international degree student can take up to 3 semesters ( or 6 credits) of CIDS Courses. The CIDS courses use the NCKU Student ID Number to track the learning records. Course records for undergraduate students are based on the number of semesters they pass. For graduate students (M.A. and Ph.D.), records are based on the number of semesters they are enrolled in, regardless of passing, and withdrawals are also included.
According to NCKU regulations and guidelines, undergraduate students who pass the CIDS course can use up to 4 credits earned to waive the "College Chinese" requirement. The remaining 2 credits will not be considered as credits required for graduation but will be listed on the transcript. For MA or Ph.D. students, the credits earned from the CIDS course cannot be used to calculate required graduation credits, yet it will still be listed on the transcript.
To ensure each international degree student can enroll in CIDS courses for at least 2 semesters, the Course Enrollment System has set a 2-semester limit. Manual registration is required for the 3rd semester. To apply for the 3rd semester, students must submit a course add request through the NCKU Course Information and Enrollment System during the Application for Online Course Additions period. The CLC Office will process the request if seats are available during the Special Circumstance Course Enrollment Stage.
The CIDS courses are available in the NCKU Course Information and Enrollment System. Students should use the system to add courses online 【by themselves】 during the designated course selection stages each semester. Placement test and Course Enrollment Related
New students with 6 months or more of Chinese/Mandarin learning experience or a living background in Mandarin and Continuing students looking to skip levels must take a placement test. Not completing the test will make the course application invalid. Students’ class levels will be determined based on the results of the tests. The test will be an online test and costs NT$350 per time, payable upon completion. If a student takes the test but cannot attend the course that semester, the results remain valid for up to 2 years (4 semesters) without retesting.
Placement levels are determined based on test results and will not be changed once announced. If students need to adjust their level (e.g., if the course is too difficult or too easy), they must obtain the instructor's consent. Students must request adjustments and discuss with the instructor after completing one class session by the end of the third week of the semester. If the instructor agrees, please contact the Chinese Language Center office for further assistance. Please stay on the same level and wait for the updated notification from the CLC Office before moving to other levels.

According to the NCKU Course Enrollment Regulations, the credits resulting from a course re-enrollment will not be counted toward the minimum number of credits for graduation but will be used in the calculation of the total grade for the semester and graduation. Furthermore, enrollment in two schedule-conflicting courses is unpermitted and will result in a grade of zero for both courses. Please make sure neither you take the same course nor have two courses at the same time.
