Yelapa

Some say that Yelapa means "place where roads cross" and several have proven it. Others say that Yelapa means "Get out if you can" and many of us have proven it. The only way to get to Yelapa is by sea, even though it is not an island, this town is separated by a very steep mountain range in which it has not been possible to make a road, therefore it can only be reached by boat. It is located 45 minutes by boat from Puerto Vallarta; During the trip you will be able to appreciate beautiful landscapes of the sea and the mountains covered with vegetation, as well as various animals such as pelicans, frigatebirds, seagulls, manta rays, dolphins and even humpback whales, when it is season (November to March).

Yelapa is located in a bay, which in turn is inside another bay; Its calm waters allow the whole family to enjoy the sea and the waves . Dolphins , manta rays and, in the winter season, whales swim in the waters that surround it .

History and culture

Its first settlers come from Chacala, a town that is in the mountains at 610 m above sea level, both belong to the Cabo Corrientes municipality. About 2,000 people live in Yelapa, with a large young population. Most of the tourism that comes to this place comes from the United States and Canada, being a place known since the 60s, for its exclusivity and its distance from other places.

It is a town that has barely had electricity for almost 10 years.

Currently Yelapa lives from tourism and fishing.

It is characterized by its dirt roads, narrow and safe to walk ; You can only find some ATVs, bicycles and horses or mules that people use for cargo.

For this same reason, the paths are very enjoyable to travel in an afternoon of walking.

Jungle and Sea

Yelapa is a beautiful place where two incredible ecosystems are combined: the Mexican Pacific Ocean marine and the medium jungle, in them we can find a lot of biological diversity, thanks to its orographic characteristics and its conservation due to the isolation and care of its inhabitants. .

The sea temperature is warm in summer and colder in winter when you can see humpback whales, dolphins, manta rays among many fish of different colors and sizes.

In addition to the marine beauty, you can see rivers and waterfalls within walking distance, some a few minutes away and others several hours away. surrounded by vegetation that changes according to the time of year.

Normally, the weather in Yelapa is very pleasant: from November to early June there are only a few cloudy days and occasional rain (except when God decides otherwise); in summer, during the rainy season, the days are sunny with tropical showers in the afternoon. The sea temperature is warm.

Restaurants and night life

Even though Yelapa is a very small town, there are several places to eat well, which adapt to different budgets.

The preferred nightlife is the bonfires, music and singing in Los Naranjos or on the beach.
