What does a school counselor do?

My goal as the school counselor at Grundy County R-V is to work collaboratively with not only the parents/guardians, but also with the students, teachers, administrators, and community members. I continue to work diligently to create a comprehensive school counseling program that puts the students first. I believe that every student can succeed in the school setting and can graduate High School prepared to meet their goals after graduation. I believe this preparation begins as early as Kindergarten and will evolve throughout their years in school. My mission is to ensure your student(s) feel capable of achieving academic success, while also understanding the importance of their mental health, social/emotional development, and setting goals for their future.

There are several different important aspects within the program that will assist students with their academic performance, growth with their mental health and social/emotional development, and most importantly ensuring they have a safe learning environment that positively impacts them. It is important to understand that one of the most important aspects of this program includes you as the parent/guardian. I want to work closely with you to ensure the needs of your student(s) are being met! The goal is to help them attain success, no matter what that looks like. It will benefit the student to involve them in the process and it benefits the family as whole as you see your child grow.
