When recognizing the resilience of Lawrence, we must also recognize that the city lost a son, a sibling, a student, and a friend, which is never easy. However, the city did not mourn in quiet and made sure that Leonel did not die in vain. The Leonel Rondon Pipeline Safety Act was created in honor of Leonel to try to make sure that a disaster of this nature will never happen again. As Mayor Rivera said, "His name is Leonel Rondon. No one should ever forget that."
