Evaluating the success of your Premium project plan
—
This tool will help evaluate your Premium projects and assess whether you are achieving the changes or long-term outcomes you want to see as the projects are implemented. Outcomes are the changes over time, how the projects are helping reduce individual and community needs (increased literacy, access to clean water).
The Fair Trade Committee Secretary or a suitable member of the Fair Trade Committee should complete this evaluation. This person should get input from project managers or others who are intimately involved with Premium projects. This tool will prompt you to monitor Premium plans and projects on a regular basis so that you can reflect on how well a project is going and its outcomes. You can celebrate your successes and make changes to make sure projects meet the needs they are addressing. These evaluations will also help to communicate in your organization how your Premium plans are progressing.
Step 1
Fill out this online survey when your Premium Plan is approved
This survey will ask the following questions:
What is the name of your organization?
What is the Fair Trade ID of your organization?
What is your name?
What is your title?
What is your email address?
What Fair Trade products or commodities does your organization produce?
What is your current Premium balance?
What is the currency of your Premium balance?
How many Premium projects are in your Premium plan?
For each project:
What is the name of a project in your Premium plan?
How much Fair Trade Premium do you expect to spend on this project?
Who are the intended beneficiaries for the way premium is being spent?
How many people will benefit from the way premium is being spent? If family or community based, estimate the # of families and multiply based on average household size.
What are the needs that the project is intended to address?
How was this project selected?
Which topics will this project target?
What are the long-term outcomes you hope to achieve with this project?
Describe what you learned from your Needs Assessment about the current needs of individuals in the Fair Trade organization’s community.
How did you decide to prioritize these needs? Did you have to make any tradeoffs or decisions to prioritize one area over another? Why did your community of Premium Participants make the decision it made?
What are the community’s goals and long-term outcomes for these projects as a whole? How might you know you have succeeded?
Step 2
Fill out this online survey every 6 months
This survey will ask the following questions:
What is the name of your organization?
What is the Fair Trade ID of your organization?
What is your name?
What is your title?
What is your email address?
What Fair Trade products or commodities does your organization produce?
What is your current Premium balance?
What is the currency of your Premium balance?
How many projects in your Premium plan have started?
For each project:
What is the name of this project?
Which topics does this project target?
Compared to the goals in your original project plan, how well do you think the project is going? (1 being not well and 5 being better than our goals!)
Please enter some reflections about what is going well and what could be improved. Some areas to reflect upon include timeline, project management, project results, engagement among members with the project, but this will be specific to your individual project.
Is the project following its planned timeline?
If not, why is it taking longer?
Is the project following its budget?
If not, why is it costing more or less?
Do you have any photos of the project? If not, now is the time to take them! If so, here you can upload them!
Do you have any stories about the project?
Has this project been completed?
If yes, how many people benefited from this project? If family or community based, estimate the # of families and multiply based on average household size.
What did you learn from this project?
What would you do differently?
What outcomes did you achieve?
Overall:
Review your original Premium plan and the long-term goals and outcomes you wanted to see. On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest, how do you feel you are measuring against your success metrics across the entire plan?
What is going well for the Premium plan? What could be improved?
Overall, what successes and areas for improvement in the Premium plan would you like to share with the Fair Trade Committee and the General Assembly?
