World Literature
COURSE DESCRIPTION
English II Honors:
In English II Honors, students will refine their knowledge of language through a focused study of multicultural, world literature related to conflict. They will read and analyze a variety of texts—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama—both inside and outside of class.
By reading a variety of literary texts, students will study the author’s craft by making inferences, determining point of view, and analyzing theme and figurative language.
By reading a variety of informational texts, students will analyze an author’s development and support of a thesis and create a variety of responses to texts. Additionally, English II Honors students will analyze propaganda techniques and critique how bias is revealed in texts.
In writing composition, students will produce essays that are coherent and well-organized with a thesis and supporting evidence. In implementing the writing process, students will also compose a variety of written forms of expression. They will proofread and edit their work for the correct use of the conventions of written Standard American English, and they will use revision strategies to improve elements such as organization, content and development, and voice.
Honors level students will cover a variety of extended material, be expected to work at a quicker pace than academic students, be expected to read more than one piece of literature simultaneously, and be able to work collaboratively in a more inquiry based atmosphere.
