GCS has a partnership with Behavioral Health Services North (BHSN)
Mental health is not simply the absence of mental illness but also encompasses social, emotional, and behavioral health and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. Schools offer an ideal context for prevention, intervention, positive development and regular communication/collaboration between therapists, school counselors and families. Research has shown that students are more likely to seek therapeutic counseling when services are available in schools. The partnership between BHSN and Greenwich CSD gives Greenwich students the opportunity to attend their appointment while at school. This helps ensure access to care (extremely high demand currently) and consistency of appointments (less to manage for busy parents).
Benefits
Less time out of the classroom because students do not have to travel to appointments.
School professionals are able to refer students for services (with parental permission).
Shorter wait time to begin services compared to applying for services within the community.
Improved communication between school and mental health provider.
Better consistency and quality of care as students are seen on a regular schedule.
Support provided to the school.
Clinic Operations
Therapists work with the school(s) to build and create interventions that encourage success.
Counselors ensure confidentiality is maintained and does not share specific treatment information of any student with school staff or outside individuals without authorized consent by family.
The School-Based Services goal is to create consistent treatment, ease of access, decrease missed classroom time in school, crisis intervention, and symptom stabilization. We strive for consistency and quality of care for students, as well as improved communication between school and mental health providers.
Referrals to this program are solely made by the GCS mental health professional (Student Support Staff) and administration groups, after parent permission is obtained.
We can all help prevent suicide. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States.
