To maintain an appropriate learning environment, I have established the following art room rules that all students are expected to follow:
To encourage students to follow the rules, I will recognize appropriate behavior with praise, various types of reinforcement, and notes or calls home to you. If students choose to break the rules, I have established an escalating series of responses ranging from gentle prompts and reminders (by writing a Behavior workbook- that has to be signed by parent/guardian), to the use of logical consequences, including detention.
· Each student deserves the right to work in an excellent working environment. Any behavior that interferes with the student’s right to learn, or the teacher’s responsibility to teach will not be tolerated.
1) Verbal/Non-Verbal Warning ( ART self-monitoring chart)
2) Change assignment and/or seating.
· Students will sit in designated area to have a quiet time.
3) Students will follow their teacher’s procedures for failing to maintain their behavior goals; Followed by Art Room Behavior Work Book report to be signed by their parents
4) Parent contact and Discipline Report (Cherrydale Elementary Minor Offense Form)
Parents contact is automatic if the student violates any safety rule especially opening doors, dangerous use of materials, using furniture for playground equipment, etc. During any Emergency Procedures students are to remain silent(absolutely no talking). Talking or other behavior that endangers the safety and welfare of the class during a drill is automatically a Discipline Report.
5) Discipline Referral- Severe Disruption: Send to Mr. West or Mrs. Johnson's office.
1) Beginning of art class:

A-R-T chart: When students begin class they see the letters A-R-T on the board. Letters are turned over if the class gets too loud, or if students are not on task. Their goal is to keep all three letters showing throughout the entire class. If at the end of class, they still have all three letters they will received a Panther paw and Paw point. VIP(s) will be selected from the team(s) keep their letter up.
Free Activity day: Each class will earn a Paw point for the day and get a Paw point on the Paw tracker. For every 5 Paw points will earn a free day in Art Class!
Respect Other's Art: Never write, draw, paint etc. on anyone's artwork but your own. Use only positive words when referring to the work of others. Most importantly, treat others the way you want to be treated!
Work Quietly - Students are often allowed to talk in the art room; however, I do expect for there to be no talking when I am speaking. There will be a chart displayed that informs students of what form of talking is acceptable at that moment. The choices will be, "Whisper Art" or "Silent Art".
Asking a Question - In the art room I use the "Ask 3 Rule". If a student has a question he/she should ask 3 teammates the question before coming to the teacher, unless we are having "Silent Art". If the student is unable to get a satisfactory answer then he/she should come and ask the teacher.
Recycling - Please recycle all paper in the trash can nearest the storage closet.
End of Class – Students will stop what they are doing if classroom music is turned off. Following after the Attention bell ring, students are expected to start cleaning up and collect materials immediately. All materials and a team folder should be placed in the front of each table unless otherwise instructed, and all tables should be wiped down when necessary. The table that is clean, quiet and ready will line up first.
