What is RTI?
RTI stands for "Response to Intervention." RTI is a reading program that helps students learn phonetic skills and build reading fluency.
Students in kindergarten and first grade are given benchmark assessments three times a year, fall, winter and spring. These benchmarks can qualify students for extra reading instruction. Students will work in small groups to learn phonics and reading strategies.
This year, benchmarks will be given to second grade students who were in RTI in first grade, are recommended by their teacher or identified by MAP scores given during LEAP week. As well, students new to our school or district will be benchmark. Students who qualify will work in small groups to learn phonics and reading strategies.
