Students may offer suggestions for books by emailing Mrs. Rouse or Ms. Ouzts, or by giving the written information to Mrs. Judd at the circulation desk. Please include the title and author of the book. The addition of suggested books depends on many things, and we will accommodate students requests when possible.
Students who would like to work on the Morning Show must submit an application. Only fifth graders are invited to participate on a Morning Show crew. The following jobs make up the crews: Director/Computer Tech, Anchor, Pledge Leader, Words of Wisdom, Camera, and Sound tech. Rising fourth grade students may apply during the Leadership Job Fair in the spring for the following school year.
Classes are allowed to access our Makerspace corner after they earn 5 library rewards. In short, the Makerspaces offers students the opportunity to experience self-directed hands-on learning. Students are encouraged to create tangible objects and learn through real-life experiences involving collaboration, trail-and-error problem solving, strategy, and resilience.
Library Cadets work in the Media Center each morning from 7:40-7:55. Interested students may apply for the job and must show knowledge of the Media Center including locating books and using Destiny Quest. Cadets re-shelve fiction books, help students find books, check out books, and various other tasks. Rising fourth and fifth grade students may apply for this job during the Leadership Job Fair in the spring for the following school year.
Battle of the Books is a reading program for fourth and fifth grade students. Participants must read ten books from a predetermined list of South Carolina book award winners and attend meetings and practices. Please come to the library to sign up. Interested students will also receive a permission slip to be signed by parents. Once the slip is returned, students may begin checking out and reading the books for competition! Students compete in a quiz bowl at the school level and winners go on to compete at the District level. See the ten books!
Each year, our students participate in the SC Picture Book and SC Children's Book voting! First through third grade must read at least five of the picture book nominees to be eligible to vote for a winner in the Spring. Fourth and Fifth graders must read at least five of the children's chapter books to be eligible to vote for a winner in the Spring. Once students have read a book of there choosing from the list of nominees, they will fill out a Google Form to document their reading and earn a Brag Tag! Fourth and Fifth graders will have a voting party as well (TBD).

The library team participates in covey clubs each year as a part of Woodland's Leader in Me program. This year Ms. Ouzts will lead the Wildcats Trivia Club for fourth and fifth graders, while Mrs. Rouse will lead a Sticker Together Puzzle Poster Club. These clubs will meet once a month in the Media Center.
Please join us in our summer reading program! The media specialists will issue you a log each year before the summer holidays. Turn in your log at the beginning of the following school year to earn a special reward. This year we are hosting an ice cream party Sept. 5th!
