Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music  on-line music curriculum. Quaver teaches each concept listed below for three weeks using a variety of methods: singing, moving, listening, creating, playing.

Hal Leonard's Essential Elements Music Classroom Curriculum : I use this curriculum for recorders, bucket drumming, ukuleles, rhythm cups, and choral music.

Kindergarten:

1st Quarter-Beat, Voice, Rhythm

2nd Quarter- Pitch, Melody, Meter, Holiday Music

3rd Quarter – Orchestra Study - "Tubby the Tuba", Dynamics, Tempo

4th Quarter- Duration, Listening, Year-End Review


First Grade:

1st Quarter – Beat, Meter, Rhythm

2nd Quarter – Voice, Lines and Spaces, Melody, Holiday Music

3rd Quarter – Notes and Rests, Tempo, Dynamics

4th Quarter – Orchestra Study- "Carnival of the Animals", Patriotic Music, Year-End Review


Second Grade:

1st Quarter – Beat, Meter, Rhythm

2nd Quarter – Singing, Melody, Orchestra Study - "Peter and the Wolf", Holiday Music, The Nutcracker

3rd Quarter – Notes and Rests, Dynamics, Instruments

4th Quarter – Composing, Form, Year-End Review


Third Grade:

1st Quarter – Rhythm, Singing, Melody

2nd Quarter – Baroque  Period - Bach, Notes and Rests, Dynamics, Holiday Music, The Nutcracker

3rd Quarter –  Instruments, Styles, Tempo

4th Quarter – SC History Music, Harmony, Year-End Review


Fourth Grade:

1st Quarter – Rhythm, Melody, Duration, Notation

2nd Quarter – Rhythm, Singing, Melody, Holiday Music, The Nutcracker

3rd Quarter – Duration, Notation, Articulation and Tempo

4th Quarter – Instruments, Chords and Harmony, The Baroque Period - Handel


        Fifth Grade:

        1st Quarter – Meter, Rhythm, Singing

        2nd Quarter – Melody, Notation, Listening, Holiday Music, The Nutcracker

        3rd Quarter – Instruments, The Classical Period - Beethoven, Chords and Harmony

        4th Quarter – Appalachian Dulcimer Instruction, Ukulele Instruction

 Major Assessments

Daily and weekly assessments are made and may  include concepts such as pitch matching, vocal/tonal development, ability to play instruments accurately rhythmically and melodically, and creative movement (mirroring, and dancing.) 

Some written evaluations on music theory and history will be from material covered in class, and will be administered electronically.

Homework policy:  Students may be given activities to do at home that will correspond with activities that have been covered in class. Parent participation is encouraged.

                                                                                       Classroom Management Plan:  

 *Class Dojo: Students are assigned a dojo monster on the promethean board. Monsters receive points for following The Quaver Five. Monsters lose points for failure to follow The Quaver Five. When a student has 10 points, they receive a prize.

Procedures for non-instructional routines:  

Students will pick up and return books to the shelves in an orderly fashion. Students will be responsible for getting their own instruments and keeping the instrument shelf orderly. Students will be allowed to use the restroom when necessary.

Communication:  Phone calls, personal contact, and the teacher web-site are ways that the teacher communicates with the families.
