About the Teacher

Ms. VanderKooi

Hi, I’m Miss VanderKooi, and I love music! I taught music for 8 years in Chicago, and this is my 4th year in South Carolina.

I graduated from Bob Jones University in 2013 with a B.S. in Music Education. In 2015 I received my Masters in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. I am a Board-Certified Music Therapist through St. Mary of the Woods in Indiana. I am also certified in World Music Drumming level I and Orff-Schulwerk levels I, II, and III. Currently I am working toward a doctorate in music education through Boston University's online program!

Piano is my favorite instrument, but I also frequently play the harp, guitar, and clarinet. In my free time, I love to play volleyball, play in my band "Ascension," bake, volunteer, and hang out with friends. My favorite color is green. I love donuts, coffee, and Indian food!

I believe that everyone is musical and that everyone can express themselves musically. I am looking forward to a fun-packed year of music!
