Riverside High School ~ The Warrior Press ~ Volume 7, Edition 5 ~ September 14, 2026
Twenty-five GCS students have been identified as Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $24 million that will be offered next spring. Riverside High School led Greenville County Schools again this year with seven students.
Red Ribbon Week - Red Ribbon Week 2026, sponsored by the Riverside High School PTSA, has been moved up this year due to conflicts with StuCo’s Spirit Week. While the week traditionally focuses on the prevention of drug and alcohol use, we also pair the theme of making smart, life-saving choices in all situations, especially as we move into Homecoming weekend. "Be a Hero" and join us in daily "Dress Up” days throughout the week, remembering that School Dress Code always applies. And on Friday, September 25, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Dept will have the Victoria Humphries vehicle on our campus between the student parking lot and parent drop off loop. Victoria died in a single car accident on July 17, 2012 on Hwy 14 in Greer, SC. She was not wearing her seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Department partnered with the Humphries family to use the wrecked vehicle to show the importance of wearing a seat belt and learning safe driving skills as a teenage driver.
Please see the Counseling Connection Newsletter for the Month of September.
Academic Time (tutoring) is back. Riverside High School will host Academic Time every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5 p.m. on the G-Hall. Students Must be Present and Signed-In by 4:00 p.m. or they may not stay. Students must provide their own transportation at the conclusion of Academic Time. Please use this free opportunity to get help, catch up or finish work in your classes.
In celebration of National Arts in Education Week, RHS PTSA is launching its annual Reflections Contest. Does your student enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films or taking photos? Then join us in encouraging your student to have fun unleashing their inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “What My Culture Means to Me” calls for their unique interpretation through the arts. Students will enjoy rewards ($50 for 1st Place!) and recognition for their effort, and their judged entry may be selected as a winner at the school, district, state, or national level. Check out the Reflections information on our PTSA website or contact Kristen Belflower for more information. Entries are due in January.
The School Store in the cafeteria is OPEN and going strong. But we’d like to clear up some confusion among students, so please share this graphic with your students to help explain the new Incentive Program. Due to the new enforcement of the SC Smart Snack guidelines during school hours, the store is no longer allowed to SELL sugared sodas or candy. But students may EARN these items as an incentive. PTSA has added a $10 “School Store Donation” item to the menu. Every student that makes a donation will receive incentive tokens to be exchanged for sodas or candy. If a student makes a $10 donation to the Store, they will receive 5 incentive tokens, each token good for one $2 soda or $2 candy bar. This is NOT a scam. Do the math – it’s a $10 donation for 5 - $2 incentive item tokens. These donations can only be made at the school store.
In order to keep its doors open, volunteers are needed! It’s a great way to see the culture of our school and see your kids in their element. Consider volunteering even just once, or even better, once a month. We will train you! Sign up HERE.
