Your child will have homework 4 times a week. I feel this develops good study habits and provides a review of work done in class. Homework assignments should take about 30 minutes to complete. Please provide a quiet time and place for your child to do this work, and help by checking over completed assignments.

A permanent record is maintained in the school office for each student. All information in the permanent record is confidential and is accessible only to the professional staff, and the student’s parents and guardian. All grades are recorded in the grade book. Student records are kept , by subject, in Language Folders, Math Checklists, Writing Portfolios, and Permanent Records.

Homework will be assigned every day except Friday. Students will be expected to complete all homework. The homework time limit is set according to the Greenville County School District Policy Manual: 30 minutes per day.

Provisions for make up of school work missed during excused absences shall be worked out with the teacher concerned at the earliest time possible but should not exceed 5 school days after the student returns to school. Tests must be made up by the 5th school day after the absence occurs. Make up of schoolwork missed during unexcused absences may be approved only with the permission of the principal after consultation with the teacher concerned.

Most discipline problems can be handled between the teacher and the student. If the offense is serious or if the behavior persists the student’s parents will be informed. There are times when the student’s parents are required to come to the school for a conference. Students are expected to follow the rules posted in the classroom.

The district’s guidelines will be followed in every elementary school in Greenville County. The guideline’s philosophy is that grades should reflect the accomplishment of the student in the classroom to the fullest extent possible. In essence, grades must be earned.
