LEARNING IS FUN!

Dear Parents:

My name is Robbin Surfus, and I will be your child’s fifth grade ELA teacher this year. I will spend a great deal of time with your child in the upcoming school year. Because of this, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself – both personally and professionally.

I was raised in a military family and spent most of my school years moving every 2 to 3 years. My favorite place was Germany, which we were lucky enough to live in twice.  My dad retired and moved us back to Columbia, S.C where both of my parents grew up. I graduated from high school there and met my husband. We have four boys and I was privileged to be a stay at home mom with them while I was working on my teaching degree, which I received in 2006, from Eastern Michigan University. This will be the start of my 18th year teaching and I have taught Science Lab, fourth and fifth grade.  I certified by the state of South Carolina and am a highly qualified teacher. I have a Bachelors in Education, plus 18 credits towards my Masters. I am also a Clemson Upstate Writing graduate. I love teaching fifth grade and am so excited that I will be your child's teacher.

I have planned an exciting year for my students with many opportunities to explore, learn and excel. I will keep you updated on all school and classroom activities through a weekly folder and our class web site.

As a parent, you are the most important person in your child’s life, and we need to work together for your child’s benefit. I need your support with helping your child with their study habits and classroom expectations. With school and home working together, I know we can have a successful year.

It's going to be an AWESOME year!

Sincerely,

Robbin Surfus
