Our team was reactivated over 10 years ago, and we have had a lot of success at building our team. This past summer, Jacob Sheridan and Joshua Begelman represented South Carolina in World Schools Debate and Lucas Hogan made it to the the semifinal round in Congressional Debate at the National tournament in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2024, Jacob Sheridan and Joshua Begelman represented South Carolina in World Schools Debate at Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2023, both Emily Allison (Original Oratory) and Elaina Albers (World Schools) competed at Nationals. In 2022, both Elanor McMakin and Emily Allison competed at Nationals. In 2021, both James Bannon and Eleanor McMakin went to Nationals and competed together as members of the World Schools Debate team from South Carolina. In 2020, GHS Speech and Debate sent 3 people to nationals, Elizabeth Smith, Isabella Sheridan, and Calvin Blessing. In 2019, Greenville High made up half of the South Carolina Congress team at Nationals. Calvin Blessing also had the great honor of being a member of the World Schools Debate team from our state. We have won the 4A state team title a total of three times. Emma Dill is the current District New Coach of the Year.
We compete at all local tournaments and occasionally travel North Carolina for competitions. It is a lot of fun and we hope to see you at our next meeting!
To join our team, see or contact Mrs. Dill in room 130 or at enewell@greenville.k12.sc.us. There is no application to join! No single meeting or tournament is required, but it is highly encouraged to go to as many as possible.
