As a Title I school, it is our responsibility to inform parents of our academic progress as it relates to the ESEA Waiver. The purpose of Title I is the following:

·        To ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.  

·        To reach, at minimum, proficiency on the challenging SC State Standards.

Lakeview received an Unsatisfactory rating with a score of 27 for the 2021-2022 school year.   It is our goal to continue meeting our objectives in the areas of reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. 

The requirements of Title I are the following: use high quality academic assessments for accountability, focus on teacher preparation and training, make curriculum and instructional materials available for teachers and students, meet the needs of low-achieving students in high poverty schools, and closing the achievement gap.  Additionally, Title I holds schools accountable for improving academic achievement; targets and uses resources wisely; provides greater decision making authority to parents, teachers, and schools in exchange for greater responsibility for student performance; and provides an enriched and accelerated program for all students. 

Lastly, Title I promotes schoolwide reform based upon scientifically based research, elevates the quality of instruction by providing staff ample opportunities for professional development, coordinates services with outside community agencies, and affords parents substantial opportunities to participate in the education of their children.

 Title I informs parents and families about their right to know the following:  information and knowledgeable about the professional qualifications of their child’s teacher, information regarding the school’s overall academic performance on state assessments, and information regarding their child’s overall academic performance on state assessments. 

Some of the ways that Title I money is spent at Lakeview are as follows:

·        Smaller class size

·        Additional teacher training

·        Additional staff to assist teachers and parents

·        Parenting programs

·        Instructional technology and software

·       Supplemental classroom resources

Within the Title I program it is recognized that involved parents are important for student success.   Parents have the right to know how their child is progressing academically and how the school is performing on state tests.  Parents can request information about their child's teachers' qualifications.  Parents also have the opportunity to give input through surveys, evaluations, and serving on the Title I Planning Committee to help develop the school Title I plan.

Parents can participate in the education process in many ways.  Parents have the opportunity to attend teacher conferences and school events.  Supervising homework is another great way to help.  Parents can always observe in your child's classroom and volunteer.
