FRENCH 1 SYLLABUS
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: T’es Branche, authentic materials from TV5 Monde and Radio France Internationale, Podcast Français Facile, newspaper, and additional teacher made materials.
Course Description: This is an introductory French class. Emphasis is put on speaking reading, listening, and writing. Students are introduced to the cultures of various French speaking countries and taught to appreciate the similarities and differences between those cultures and their own.
Standards1.1: Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
Standard 1.2: Understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
Standard 1:3: Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.

CLASS RULES
Rules and expectations for my class can be summarized in two words: RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. Students must act respectfully toward each other and the teacher. They will show responsibility by: being on time, coming to class prepared, following directions, not disrupting class, and not bringing foods and drinks in the classroom. See the student contract in their binder for more details.
Assessments and grading policy
Student growth and performance will be assessed on a regular basis, on all units, through quizzes, class work, oral presentations, and test. They will be scored as follows. 50% major assessments, 40% minor assessments, and 10% homework.
Grading scale
A= 90 - 100
B= 80 - 89
C=70 - 79
D= 60 - 69

Conferences can be held between 12:00 and 2:00 am or before / after school if arrangements are made. Extra help is available upon request. Please, feel free to arrange time for additional help.
MATERIALS
Students are expected to come to class prepared. Bring textbook, workbook, notebook and due home work every day.
Attendance Policy:
Absences in High School are accrued per course. Any absence in excess of 10 may cause the student to lose credit for a 180-day course. Any absence in excess of 5 may cause the student to lose credit for a 90-day / semester course. Absences that are medical (doctor notes), bereavement, and/or Principal Approved are not included in the maximum absences. See Student Handbook p. 11-12
Tardiness
Refer to Student Handbook, p.13. Greer High students must be present a minimum of 45 minutes to be counted present.

Information about the class will be posted on my website weekly. There, you will find current topics being studied, announcements, due dates for homework, assignments, projects, and upcoming quizzes and tests. In case of absences, contact me for makeup work. Academic Policies and Procedures: Missing work will be made up within 5 days after students have returned to school when absences were excused. It is the student’s responsibility to inquire about work that needs to be made up. A zero will be given for all assignments not made up during the allowed time.
