RTI is a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). A framework that utilizes evidence based and data-driven, student-centered practices to advance the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning of all students.
TIERS OF SUPPORT:
Response to Intervention is within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). As school teams analyze the screening data (FAST and Fountas and Pinnell), they determine the needs of Tiers 1, 2, and 3. The following chart provides definitions for each Tier of Support.
Tiers of Support
Tier 1
Standards-based core instruction and supports provided school-wide, incorporating differentiated instruction based on student needs. 80% or more of the students should respond to Tier 1, showing no or low risk on reliable/valid measures.
Tier 2
A clearly defined targeted intervention or program for students demonstrating indicators of some risk in behavior, attendance, course performance, or on universal academic or social-emotional screeners and other sources of data. Tier 2 should consist of approximately 15% of the students.
Tier 3
A clearly defined intensive intervention targeted for students demonstrating significant indicators of risk in behavior, attendance, course performance, universal academic or social-emotional screeners and other sources of data (Tier 3 should consist of approximately 5% of students).
