RGS School Counseling Program Components
Individual Counseling
Brief individual counseling is a personal and private conversation between a counselor and a student in which they work together on a problem or topic of interest. School counselors do not provide long-term individual counseling services. If long-term services are needed, school counselors can make a referral to a licensed mental health counselor.
Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling involves a counselor working with two or more students together. Group members have the opportunity to learn from each other.
School Counseling Classroom Lessons
School counseling classroom lessons offer the best opportunity to serve the larger numbers of students at one time in the areas of academic readiness, career development, and social-emotional learning.
Coordination
Coordination is an intervention and the process of managing various indirect services which benefits students. The school counselor is a liaison between school and the community.
Consultation
The school counselor as a consultant helps people to be more effective in working with others. Counselors consult with teachers, administration, and parents.
