About Me

Introduction

My name is Sally Batson. I have been a teacher in Greenville County Schools for 18 years, but I have been affiliated with Greenville County Schools my entire life. I graduated from Travelers Rest High School in 2000, received my Bachelor's Degree in English and Secondary Education in 2004, and returned to my home county to work as a middle level teacher. After teaching seventh and eighth grade for eight years at Berea Middle School, I accepted a position at Hillcrest High. I taught at Hillcrest for seven years before moving to Northwest Middle. I received my Master's of Arts in Literature in 2011 through a fellowship opportunity provided by Greenville County School District and acquired a second Master's of Science in Literacy in 2020.

Currently, I am certified in Middle Level English, Secondary Education, Gifted and Talented, AP Language, AP Literature, and Secondary Literacy.

Philosophy of Education

My philosophy is that education is a fluid experience. By that, I mean that there is not a final goal or hurdle for any individual in their learning process. Instead, learning is a lifelong process whose scope and sequence varies from person to person. We may surpass some and fall behind others, but what ultimately matters is the belief that the process of learning is the most important part. It is in striving for the goal that we learn, not in the immediate acquisition of it.
