Parent Information

Parent Info

HOORAY for Kindergarten! We build the foundation for the many years ahead! We couldn't do our job without you ~ the very FIRST teachers!!

I hope the following information will help you know what to expect in Kindergarten this year and will help answer any questions you may have. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, a weekly newsletter, my website, progress reports and parent-teacher conferences. I truly believe that a positive home/school relationship makes a difference in the educational process. I will do my best to keep the lines OPEN! Let's have a great year working together!

Parents are encouraged to share any special skills or talents with our class. We would love to have you come in and read to us or share your talents at any time!! Just send Mrs. Puckett a note and she will be more than happy to "squeeze" you in to our day. We look forward to hearing from you. Don't be shy!!!

WEEKLY FOLDERS

You will receive your child's weekly work and class newsletter in a Blue Teacher/Parent Communicator Folder on Mondays. Please return the folder the next day along with any additional correspondence you have for me. You may keep the work.

You will also receive a "Daily Behavior Agenda/Reading Log. Please sign and return these each day. Please help us praise good behavior choices!!

CLASSROOM RULES

The rules will be posted in our classroom along with rewards and consequences. Our class will also participate in the school-wide "Seven Habits of Happy Kids" program. We will all be looking to "catch" kids being good and becoming LEADERS!!!

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Throughout the school year there will be a variety of special classroom and school wide activities. I encourage you to attend these functions when possible and to support them.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

Your child's regular and prompt attendance is crucial to his/her success. Most of our learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates.

If your child is absent, please send a doctor's note or a note from you upon his/her return. Missed work may be picked up at the end of the day or upon return to school. It is also very important to be on time each and every day! Thanks for your help with this! Please note that DHEC requires a child to stay home from school if they have a fever and/or vomits within 24 hours.

CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION

If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or goes to daycare, or if you wish for your child's transportation to change for a particular day, PLEASE SEND IN A WRITTEN NOTE. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation. Please DO NOT leave a voice mail about changes on our classroom telephone. The office will call down to our room if necessary.

EARLY DISMISSALS

Please send a note in the morning if you plan to pick your child up early. Check in at the office to sign your child out and the office staff will call for your child to meet you there. There will be no early dismissals after 2 p.m.

OUTDOOR RECESS

The children will be going out for recess everyday, unless it is raining or extemely cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for the day. Sandals and dress shoes may not be ideal on some of our playground equipment. Please be sure to read the handbook policy for our district dress code. Please note that no flip-flops will be allowed. This is for your child's safety. Also, your child will not be allowed to participate in PE if he/she is not wearing tennis shoes(sneakers).

BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are very special occasions for young children. We will celebrate in the classroom with a special treat bag, allowing them to sit in a BEAUTIFUL birthday chair, and of course singing the Birthday song. We are a "Healthy Choice" school and therefore we ask that you NOT send in any items like cupcakes etc. You may join our class for lunch if you wish. We will celebrate summer birthdays in May. Birthday invitations may ONLY be given out as long as each child in the class is invited.

HOMEWORK

Please read to your child each day. This is a very special time between you and your child! It will also pave the way for encouraging a "new" reader! :) Other homework may include a special activity to go along with our "Integrated Theme Activity".

CLASS PHONE

Please do not leave any transportation changes on our classroom telephone. I may not have a chance to check my messages until after the school day, and I would hate to miss something important!

OTHER INFORMATION

A great gift idea for your child is to donate a book to the Mauldin Elementary Library in his/her honor. They love to check out "their" books and it helps our school too!!

Please take a moment to read "The Eagle's Eye" school newsletter. It is full of information and interesting tidbits about our school. Thanks to our hard-working PTA for putting this together for all of us to enjoy!

~TIPS FOR HELPING YOUR CHILD WITH READING~

~Before you begin reading a story, discuss the title, author, and illustrator.

~Take turns while reading - you can be a good model for them!

~After reading a few pages, have your child summarize in their own words what they've read so far.

~Take time to look at the illustrations and see what can be learned from them.

~After reading the story, ask your child questions about the story. Occasionally, have them show you where the answer is in the story.

~Discuss vocabulary that may be unfamiliar to your child.
