Hello and Welcome to Beck Soccer.docx

Sports/Clubs:  Head Coach Boys Soccer

I would first like to start and tell you that we are a competitive team.  This program works off the principal that when your player comes to tryouts they are at least familiar and competent with the basics of soccer.  When tryouts do happen, your player is scored based on a rubric, rating them from 1-5.  They will have the opportunity to preform each skill at least twice and my Assistant Coach and I will evaluate them.  Each day of tryouts individual scores will be kept and on the second day of tryouts, a cut score will be determined.  On the final day of tryouts cut scores, total points, age, size, coach-ability, leadership, and sportsmanship will also help determine the final cut. Seventh Grade players will not tryout with eighth Grade players until the last day of tryouts.

Day 1 :  -target for the day basic skills (Trapping, passing, dribbling, 1v1)

Day 2:  :   -target for the day basic skills (Trapping, passing, dribbling,1v1 )

Day 3:  : {1st Cut}—target of the day general soccer knowledge (Shooting, 2v2, Keeper try-outs)

Day 4:  - :    All players making 1st Cut –target of the day small game skills (5v5, Full team play, movement on and off the ball and communication, )

Before your player can tryout there are two forms that the Athletic Department must have, #1 a physical and #2 a Parent Consent/Risk Acknowledge Form.  I have attached both documents below.

For tryouts your player must have shine guards, and wear them.  If they do not have shine guards they will not be allowed to tryouts.  This is a rule that is through the High School League.

About Me:

I would like to take a few minutes and give you some information about me.  My Name is Richard Darryn Norton and I am originally from Franklin North Carolina.  I have lived and worked in Greenville since 2004.  I hold an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education History and Geography from Clemson University, and two Master degrees from Furman University one in School Leadership and Supervision and the second one is in Curriculum and Instruction.   I have been teaching since 1998, three years in North Carolina at the High School level, 2 years in Wisconsin at the Middle School (Charter School) and the rest of the time here in Greenville County right here at Beck Academy.

I am currently the Men’s Soccer Coach here at Beck as well.  I have been coaching here at Beck since 2004.  In that time period we have made the post-season 12 times and we have won 8 conference championships and 4 district titles.

In what spare time I have I do enjoy spending time with my wife Kerryanne and my father Rick, playing Irish Hurling, attending Clemson Football games and trout fishing back home in the creeks and rivers in Western North Carolina.
