Mr. Harbison is a classically trained double bassist and educator located in Greenville, SC. He previously orchestra in Charleston, SC at West Ashley High School and West Ashley Advanced Studies Magnet. Mr. Harbison holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of South Carolina. He graduated with a Bachelor's of Music Education and a Performance Certificate from the U of SC in the Spring of 2016. At Carnegie Mellon University, Mr. Harbison received a Master’s Degree in Music Performance. He is an avid teacher who spent four years teaching at the USC String Project, where he was involved with private lesson instruction and large classes instruction. While at the University of South Carolina, Mr. Harbison was also heavily involved with the Double Bass Club of South Carolina and served as Vice President, President, and Treasurer during the course of his studies. As a leading member, he organized and ran three successful Bass Conferences with students from all over the Southeast. This event brought renowned pedagogues and performers to the state and stimulated a sense of community from everyone involved.
Mr. Harbison has a wealth of performance experience and had the privilege of playing with the Long Bay Symphony, South Carolina Philharmonic, Charleston Symphony, Greenville Symphony and a myriad of other fine groups while living in South Carolina. Currently, he is a section member of the Greenville Symphony. While in Pittsburgh, Mr. Harbison frequently played with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Altoona Symphony, and the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, where he has been guest Principal Bassist. He has had the pleasure of working with Resonance Works and NAT 28, both champions of innovative programming and multimedia performances.
Mr. Harbison is married to his lovely wife, Zoe who is also a string educator in the Upstate. She is an exceptional violist who has performed with a number of orchestras across the Southeast. They live in the Upstate with their daughter Emilou, three cats Walnut, Momo and Marlo, and their dog Toby.
