RtI or Response to Intervention is a part of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) designed to support students' development of grade-level reading skills.

Identifying Students

ALL students in kindergarten through fifth grade are given reading benchmark assessments three times a year. Based on benchmark assessment results, students may be identified to receive extra support in reading in addition to their classroom reading instruction. These students participate in systematic, explicit small-group instruction to strengthen skills in the foundational components of reading (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) based on their areas of need.

Monitoring Progress

All students receiving reading intervention are monitored about every 10 instructional days to assess progress. Progress data is used to make ongoing decisions regarding students' instructional needs and readiness to exit.
