Music in the Air II: Outdoor Musical Instruments

THEY'RE HERE! See Ms. Stevenson holding the Turquoise Flower for 1st and 2nd grade playground. See her playing the Griffin in it's box. The Griffin will be installed on the 3rd-5th grade playground. We are waiting for the district crew to install them.

We are buzzing like bees about our SECOND project: the purchase of two more musical instruments for our playgrounds. In May 2019, five tuned drums were installed on the kindergarten playground. A pitched percussion instrument called the Melody was installed close to the larger playgrounds and the third/fourth/fifth grade playground. These were such a big hit, that we've raised enough money to purchase two more instruments for our playgrounds. A Turquoise Flower will be installed on the first and second grade playground. Each petal is a different pitch - do, re, mi, and so. An amazing tone chime called The Griffin will be installed near The Melody, allowing our older students greater opportunity to play in ensemble. All our Bryson Bears will have access to play, improvise, and create during recess, extending what we learn in music classes! We hope families will enjoy making music together with these outdoor instruments on weekends and in the summer.

Music fundraisers included ticket sales for the Rotary Night of Singing (our chorus performed) and piano classes taught by retired music teacher Sarah Miller.

We are grateful to the MAC (Metropolitan Arts Council) and our Bryson Elementary PTA for their grant funding.
