Rules for Student Behavior
Students are expected to follow the Conscious Discipline philosophy throughout the school day. This will be reviewed at the beginning of the school year and throughout the year when necessary. Class growls will be handed out when students show class and school wide expectations.

Keep the mirror, sink, toilet, and floor clean.

Hallway/Stairwell

Greet others silently with a wave.

Walk facing forward.
Walk/stand in the 2nd tile from the wall.
Cafeteria
Walk in a line.
Clean up after yourself. (Place trays in the service window.) (Pick up garbage and clean up spills.)
Stand quietly behind your seat at lunch until directed by the teacher to sit down.
Greet & thank staff.
Silent during breakfast
Use inside voices during lunch.
Keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.
Give lunch order.
Get milk and utensils.
Follow the exiting procedures given by the teacher.
Remain silent in the lunch line.
Bus
Board & exit safely.
Sit where told.
Walk in front of the bus. (When exiting)

Be prepared to board and exit the bus at the appropriate time.
Arrival Area
Enter at the appropriate door.
Walk directly to your holding area or breakfast.

Follow directions of safety patrols and teachers.
Arrive between 7:15 & 7:45.
Arrive before 7:40 to eat breakfast.
Playground
Use playground equipment as it was intended.
Bring in all items taken outside.
Take turns & include everyone.

When the whistle blows, stop, look & listen to your teacher.
Stay focused & participate in organized activities.
Line up when the teacher signals.
Dismissal Area
Gather all needed items from the classroom before going to the holding area.

Come when your name or class is called the first time.
Code of Conduct
I am responsible for myself, my actions, and my choices. I always come prepared to learn. I will respect everyone in our school with my speech and actions. I will follow directions politely the first time they are given. I will keep my hands, feet, and all objects to myself.
Procedures for Non-Instructional Routines
Walking in the Hall: Students will follow Hollis Academy’s rules for walking in the hallway. Students will walk quietly on the right side of the hall and will be reminded not to touch or lean on the walls.
Entering and Leaving the Classroom: Students will enter and leave the classroom quietly and in a single-file line unless permission is given otherwise.
Bathroom Procedures: Students will use the restroom on an as-needed basis.
Water Fountain: Students will be allowed to use the water fountain on an as-needed basis before or after class.
Emergency Procedures: Students will follow procedures for fire, tornado, and earthquake drills implemented by Greenville County School District. There is an emergency bag that is carried throughout the day with the students. During any emergency drill, students are instructed to remain calm and quiet so that announcements by administration can be heard.
Changing Activities/Gaining Attention: The Give Me Five process and Whole Body Listening will be utilized in order to change activities or gain students’ attention for announcements, clarification, or further instruction. The five expectations are:
1. Eyes on the Speaker
2. Lips Closed
3. Ears Listening
4. Sit Up Straight/Hands Still
5. Hands and Feet Quiet
Presentation of Rules and Procedures
Rules and procedures will be communicated to parents via the MLP syllabus and through the homeroom newsletters sent home at the beginning of the year. Rules and procedures will be communicated to students on the first day of class and reinforced every day thereafter. Review and practice of rules and procedures will take place during the first week of class and periodically throughout the year as needed.
Positive Behavior/Rewards
When students exhibit positive behavior, they will be rewarded with class growls. Stickers will be given to students who exhibit positive behavior.
When students are caught being responsible, respectful, and/or safe in any area listed on the matrix, they can be given class growls toward special events each quarter. Any member of the Hollis staff may issue growls to classes.
Class growls are cumulative. All staff members can give growls to any Hollis Academy class throughout the day when they are seen being responsible, respectful, and ready in the areas listed on the matrix.
Consequences for Breaking Rules
If one of our rules is broken, students will receive one verbal warning. If the student continues to break the rules, he/she may be asked to take a break in the calm down area to reflect on that behavior. The consequences for failure to follow the rules will align with the consequences that are already established in each student’s grade-level classroom. Some possible consequences are: silent lunch, walking laps at recess, or parent contact. Extreme cases will result in an automatic office referral.
Behavior Contract
If needed, a student will be given a reflection form. The reflection form will be between the student, teacher, and parent to help improve the child’s behavior in class.
