Course Description/Learning Objectives

Students will study the history of South Carolina within the context of United States History in grade eight. The historical thinking skills are aligned to the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate and will continue to build the world-class knowledge and skills necessary to prepare students for college and careers. The themes allow for connections to be made between content when taught chronologically. Students are expected to learn through inquiry and project-based learning.

Instructional Materials and Supplies:

Students will need the following supplies EVERYDAY in class:

• 100 page Marbled Composition Book

• Pencils

• Glue Stick

• Charged Assigned Chromebook

• Folders 

Academic Achievement: Grading 

At League Academy, grades are meant to be a clear and accurate reflection of what students know and can do. 

The Uniform Grading Policy approved by the State Board of Education says that students in middle school will be subject to the scale set out below:

A=100-90

B=89-80

C=79-70

D=69-60

F=59-0

Missing Work Due to Not Handed In (Late Work)

• Any work that is not handed in by the due date will be recorded in the gradebook as a code of NHI. The code of NHI equates to a score of zero in the gradebook. Missing Work Due to Student Absences

• Any work missed because of a student absence will be recorded as MDA.

• The code of MDA equates to a score of zero in the gradebook and will impact the student’s overall grade until the work is submitted.

• Students have five (5) school days after returning from an excused absence to submit missed work unless alternative arrangements are made. If alternative arrangements have not been

• Students will have five (5) school days from the recording of an NHI in the gradebook to turn in that assignment.

AI Policy

Under no circumstance should any AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc) be used on ANY assignment in this class, regardless of context. Failure to follow this policy will result in an automatic referral and a 0 on the assignment with no opportunity to redo the assignment.
