Course Description:

In this introductory course, you will be introduced to the discipline of ceramic arts through the exploration of techniques, skills, and styles. We will learn about ceramics artists of our time, artists of the past, and ourselves as artists. The art that we will create will be three- dimensional in sculptural and functional work. We will learn basic techniques in hand building with clay, such as slab and coil building. There will be opportunities for you to expand your creativity and push your minds to the limit while learning the basics of ceramic art.

Course Goal and Outcomes:

The goal of this course is to teach the basics of ceramics. We focus on how to build correctly, glaze, use tools, and other simple tasks. We also focus on reflection of our work and how to enhance future projects using learned skills. By the end of the course, students should feel confident in their ability to create meaningful and well made pieces of ceramic art.
